Fire Alarm Panel Alert Emailer

Serial/COM bridge to a Honeywell fire alarm panel, pushing email and SMS alerts to off-site staff.

Role
Integration developer
Sector
Financial services and facilities
Constraints
Serial hardware, off-site response, and an existing alarm panel
Stack
Serial/COM programming · SMTP · SMS gateway
Result
Off-site staff now receive an alert within moments of any panel event, closing the gap between an alarm firing and someone knowing about it.

The solution followed the shape of the problem.

A compact project map showing what constrained the work, what changed, and the useful outcome.

Operational friction

Serial hardware, off-site response, and an existing alarm panel

Intervention

Built a serial/COM bridge that listens to the panel's output and translates panel events into email and SMS alerts, sent to a distribution list the moment an event fires.

Result

Off-site staff now receive an alert within moments of any panel event, closing the gap between an alarm firing and someone knowing about it.

What was getting in the way

A Honeywell fire alarm control panel could sound an on-site alarm but had no way to notify staff who weren't physically present, leaving after-hours or off-site incidents undetected until someone happened to be on the premises.

What changed and why

Built a serial/COM bridge that listens to the panel's output and translates panel events into email and SMS alerts, sent to a distribution list the moment an event fires.

Off-site staff now receive an alert within moments of any panel event, closing the gap between an alarm firing and someone knowing about it.
